Born in 1953 in central France to a French mother and American Air Force serviceman, Alan has lived in various parts of the world and U.S.A. His artistic influence comes from his father's side of the family as his father was a writer and paternal grandfather was a painter/musician as well as his paternal grandmother. Alan's mother's French side provides the fiery passion the southern Europeans are known for. Alan came to photography at the relatively late age of 23 studying at the Art Institute of Atlanta and graduating in 1979. That was when he made his first photographic European walkabout. He was asked to come back to the Art Institute and managed the school photo lab for 5 years. Leaving the Art Institute, he made another European sojourn walking around Europe from first light to final darkness. That continued to be his way of life for many years-always working in the photo industry, saving his pennies and jaunting off to the streets of Europe until his money disappeared, then returning to the U.S. to work so he could return to Europe to take pictures. That would have been the pattern of his life had he not met a woman he could not say no to. He and his wife Beth's union has produced 2 little artist wannabees and Alan does not travel to Europe anymore. He now makes his images inside a 5 state area adjoining his adopted home state of Georgia and his photographs have been widely exhibited across the United States. He was previously represented by Fay Gold Gallery and Jane Jackson Gallery, both in Atlanta, but currently represents himself and sells his work around the United States  at art fairs and festivals. His first and ongoing true love in photgraphy is black and white as it has been his passion for 30 years. Alan has never done any commercial work as he is reluctant to let photography become a "job" that he foreseeably could come to dislike. Instead, he has kept his focus (intended) on his personal work and hopes you will feel the images as deeply as he does.
